Curtain Eyeleting Service
Eyelet Machine
We understand that many curtain makers and smaller workrooms just don’t have the space for an industrial eyelet machine. If you only produce eyelet curtains occasionally, it just isn’t cost effective to purchase one either.
For that reason we are pleased to be able to offer a nationwide curtain eyelet service – you send us your curtains and we will insert the eyelets of your choice and return the curtains to you.
Curtain Eyelets
Curtain eyelets are available in a range of sizes and colours – 40mm and 66mm (internal diameter) in a choice of Chrome, Brushed Silver, Gunmetal, Black, Brass, Antique Copper, Antique Bronze and Antique Silver.
We recommend double fullness for eyeleted curtains, although anything between 1.75 and 2.5 times fullness will also work depending on preference. When choosing the size of eyelet, bear in mind the diameter of the pole. As a general guide, the internal diameter of the curtain eyelet should be at least 1cm larger than the diameter of the pole to ensure the curtains run smoothly along the pole. We don’t recommend eyelet headings on curtains with a very long drop.
Unlined, Lined Only or
Interlined Curtains
Unlined, lined only or interlined curtains can all be eyeleted. However, we advise only one layer of each material for the eyelet machine to pass through otherwise the eyelets do not always close properly. Unless the fabric is particularly heavy, we would recommend the use of buckram at all times as it gives the curtain eyelet something to grip onto. Transparent buckram is now available from most haberdashers and this works well for lightweight sheers. You can either leave pins in the heading to hold it in place, or tack through all the layers. Once the curtains have been eyeleted, the eyelets will hold all the layers in place.
We will calculate the spacing between the eyelets for you. Our comprehensive eyelet specification form gives you the option of choosing our standard settings for spaces, returns and stand-ups, or specifying your own. Your choice of pole and bracket may well dictate the space between the eyelets so be sure to check the projection of the pole and let us know if it is particularly close to the wall. If you want us to place the eyelets according to a pattern or stripe on the fabric, please make this very clear on the form. Be aware that depending on the number of eyelets and the spaces required, it is not always possible to position eyelets in the centre of stripes. Generally, one width of 140cm fabric would require eight 40mm eyelets or six 66mm eyelets. There must always be an even number of eyelets to ensure that the curtain returns towards the wall at each end.
When sending us your curtains they must be delivered ready made and well packaged in a box to avoid damage during transit. We can arrange collection if required at an additional cost, please ask for details.
We aim to eyelet your curtains within 5 working days but it can take longer during busy periods. We will advise you of the expected despatch date when you confirm your order. If you require your curtains sooner than this, please let us know and we will try to accommodate your request.
